Note the GTK_WINDOW and GTK_CONTAINER macros. Because C has no concept of inheritance, GTK+ widgets are almost always declared as GtkWidget, as opposed to its specific class (GtkButton or GtkWindow). For GtkVBox objects, the start is the top of the box, and the end is the bottom. For GtkHBox objects, this depends on localization settings. For languages that write from left to write (like English), the start is the left and the end is the right. This is reversed for languages that write from right to left (often referred to as RTL languages). You can see the result of this in Figure 5-9. The net effect of this is that, although you can do so if you re really determined, trying to build all of your features into one large application will often give you the feeling that you re swimming against the current. In Oracle10g, snapshots no longer need to be executed manually, as with Statspack. The Automatic Workload Repository (AWR) collects performance data automatically. The data collection is done with minimal overhead by utilizing a new background process called Manageability Monitor (MMON), which is responsible for taking the snapshots of database performance statistics. Building this sort of performance diagnostic information into the database is part of Oracle s new manageability infrastructure. AWR is not just a replacement of Statspack additional information is gathered by AWR, such as operating system statistics, which can be seen in the V$OSSTAT view. The default collection method used by MMON is to take snapshots every 60 minutes. This data is stored for seven days before it is automatically purged from the system. Rather than using a perfstat user and a TOOLS tablespace, this data is stored in the SYS schema within the SYSAUX tablespace.
